Hamburg/Ulm/Merseburg, 16. March 2026. Cureus, an integrated property company that specialises in developing and actively managing its own inpatient care home portfolio, has completed the Merseburg senior residence at Preußerstraße 16 in 06217 Merseburg (Saxony-Anhalt) and handed it over to its operating partner compassio. The first residents will be welcomed to the new location in March 2026. Schneider System Bau from Radeburg acted as the general contractor for this project.
“We are delighted to now be able to provide residents in Merseburg and the surrounding area with important and urgently needed care facilities that meet the latest standards and feature attractive architecture,” says Lilli Braunagel, project manager at Cureus. "A big thank you goes to everyone involved in the construction, because with the new senior residence, the city center has now gained a valuable addition to its social infrastructure. For the new residents of the residence, a place to feel at home has been created that blends in perfectly with its surroundings. In compassio, we have gained an experienced and renowned operator for Merseburg that stands for individual care and support. We wish the future residents and the compassio team all the best in this new senior residence!“
Johannes Knake, managing director of compassio, is enthusiastic. He adds: "After Magdeburg and Dessau, Merseburg is now our third location in Saxony-Anhalt, with a fourth to follow in Halberstadt in 2027. We offer highly sought-after places for high-quality care everywhere and have already been able to recruit a very effective start-up team of committed and qualified employees for Merseburg. In the coming months, we will continue to grow and gradually and carefully increase occupancy. Resident registrations and employee applications are therefore still possible. With our motivated team in mind, appreciation and a modern working environment are particularly important to us. Only in this way can we successfully implement our high standards of care and support for our residents. Our wide range of services will include long-term and short-term care."

Interested employees can also continue to apply. A total of around 100 new and crisis-proof full-time and part-time jobs have been created. The company is mainly looking for nursing staff and assistants, and there are vacancies in the care and service areas. compassio also trains nursing staff itself at all its locations throughout Germany – both one-year nursing staff and certified nursing professionals.
“compassio is an attractive and reliable employer and operates in a crisis-proof, growing industry,” comments Knake. In addition to permanent employment contracts, highly attractive remuneration, and numerous training and development opportunities, we offer our employees a wide range of additional benefits, such as shopping opportunities at top conditions via our employee portal, JobRad leasing, subsidies for company pension schemes, and childcare subsidies. In addition, we create optimal working conditions in Merseburg: The modern new buildings offer an attractive working environment where employees feel at home, and state-of-the-art tools and equipment facilitate work processes.

State-of-the-art care with a comprehensive range of services
The barrier-free compassio senior residence in Merseburg was built on a plot of land measuring around 3,800 square meters right in the city center and covers a gross floor area of around 7,400 square meters. The building was constructed as an energy-optimized KfW Efficiency House 40, which is also aiming for DGNB Silver certification. Heating is provided by the municipal district heating network.
The residence was built in a U-shape and is accessed from Preußerstraße via the main entrance. The building opens onto Brühl Street and encloses a green courtyard. The partially basemented building extends over four full floors. Residents have access to 137 modern care places in generously designed single rooms with private bathrooms, a third of which are wheelchair accessible. In addition to a nurse call system, all rooms have their own telephone, internet, and TV connections. Residents are allowed to furnish their own rooms to maintain their privacy and create a private retreat. To promote a family-like, social atmosphere, the rooms are divided into seven independently organized living groups with their own kitchen, lounge area, and balcony or terrace.
On the ground floor of the senior residence, there is a residents' restaurant with a kitchen and sun terrace. A hotel-like reception area with an inviting foyer, a hairdresser with pedicure services, a modern nursing bath, and therapy rooms round out the range of services. The friendly, spacious outdoor facilities in the inner courtyard invite residents to enjoy outdoor activities and socialize. There are plenty of seats available for relaxing in nature.
Excellent location and accessibility
The senior residence is located directly in downtown Merseburg, not far from the Saale River, the Gotthard ponds, and the Merseburg Rose Garden. Local amenities, social and cultural facilities, and doctors are all within easy reach. Public transport connections are also provided by bus and train. Furthermore, 14 parking spaces on the premises, one of which is wheelchair accessible, two with charging points for electric cars, and bicycle parking facilities ensure optimal accessibility for residents, visitors, and staff.
Well thought out standard ensures individuality and highest building quality
The compassio Seniorenresidenz Osterholz-Scharmbeck was designed and built in accordance with the Cureus standard for system care homes. This places great importance on uniform, high quality standards and is oriented, among other things, towards the requirements of the operators, focusing on the residents and care staff. In this way, the structural processes and all properties are optimised from the inside to the outside: This concerns, for example, the size and arrangement of rooms to optimize space and walkways. Cureus care homes are also designed and equipped for maximum utility: interior corridors benefit from as much daylight as possible, every room has floor-to-ceiling windows that provide attractive views of the surrounding area, and the modern bathrooms and window fronts always follow the same standardised system approach. Each complex’s architecture and facade incorporate individual touches and are constructed to the highest quality standards, integrating seamlessly into their surroundings. The Cureus system approach also prioritises sustainability, both in terms of a care home’s long-term economic viability and its impact on the environment. All Cureus care homes are, for example, constructed in accordance with the ‘Effizienhaus-40-Standard’, while the bulk procurement of floor coverings or elevator systems, for example, ensures cost synergies and long-term maintenance contracts covering several properties also reduce costs for care home operators. The constant review and optimisation of the Cureus system care home standard guarantees the construction of care homes that truly meet demand.
