The first residents will now be welcomed to the new location, with the official opening taking place today. Olaf Joop Projektbau GmbH from Faßberg acted as the general contractor.
‘We are delighted to now be able to provide residents in Garrel and the surrounding area with important and urgently needed care facilities that meet the latest standards and feature attractive architecture,’ says Lilli Braunagel, project manager at Cureus. ‘A big thank you goes to everyone involved in the construction, because the new ‘Mien to Huus’ senior residence is a valuable addition to Garrel. The new residents of the residence now have a place to feel at home that blends in perfectly with the neighbourhood. Modern senior residence with restaurant, café, hairdresser, care and wellness baths, and therapy rooms
The new senior residence ‘Mien to Huus’ was built on a plot of approximately 3,710 square metres along the main road in Garrel with a gross floor area of approximately 5,900 square metres. The partially basemented, U-shaped building comprises a ground floor, two full storeys and a staggered storey. It is completely barrier-free, built in accordance with the highly energy-efficient and sustainable KfW 40 construction standard, and is aiming for a silver certificate according to DGNB criteria. Heating is provided in an environmentally friendly manner by a combined heat and power plant (CHP), which also generates electricity for the senior residence. A solar system is installed on the roof. The linear and modern façade, with its light and dark grey plaster and red clinker sections, is an architectural eye-catcher that blends harmoniously into the surrounding buildings with its colour scheme.
On the ground floor of the senior residence, in addition to the hotel-style lobby with reception, there is also a restaurant with a sun terrace, where fresh meals are prepared daily for the residents. The building also has a hairdressing salon and a café. Furthermore, the property has several nursing and wellness baths as well as therapy rooms for physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
The CMS senior residence ‘Mien to Huus’ is divided into six residential groups: one on the ground floor, one on the mezzanine floor and two each on the first and second floors. The residential group concept ensures a homely, family-like atmosphere. Each residential group has an attractively designed common room as the centre of the group, with a kitchen and dining area as well as a terrace or balcony, which encourages social interaction among the residents. The residential group on the ground floor is specially designed to meet the needs of seniors with dementia. Among other things, it has direct access to the garden, which is designed as a dementia garden. Here, residents can move around safely even without supervision.
Each of the 104 single rooms is built to modern standards and has its own bathroom as well as a nurse call system, telephone, internet and television connections. 37 rooms are wheelchair accessible. Residents are welcome to bring their own furniture and accessories if they wish. The park-like grounds with a spring stone, pleasantly shaded seating areas and regional fruit and deciduous trees are also available to residents of the ‘Mien to Huus’ senior residence for exercise, relaxation and socialising.
Suitable location and optimal accessibility
The new CMS senior residence ‘Mien to Huus’ is centrally located in the town centre of Garrel and within walking distance of the village park with its pond. Shopping facilities, doctors and social institutions are therefore only a few minutes' walk away. The nearby bus stop provides ideal connections between Garrel and the surrounding towns and communities. Bicycle parking spaces and 17 car parking spaces, two of which are wheelchair accessible, have been created on the grounds of the senior residence. This ensures excellent accessibility for visitors and nursing staff.
Building with high-quality, customised standard
The new Garrel senior centre has been planned and built in accordance with the Cureus standard for system care properties. This places great importance on uniform, high quality standards and is oriented, among other things, towards the requirements of the operators, focusing on the residents and care staff. In this way, the structural processes and all properties are optimised from the inside to the outside: This concerns, for example, the size and arrangement of rooms to optimize space and walkways. Cureus care homes are also designed and equipped for maximum utility: interior corridors benefit from as much daylight as possible, every room has floor-to-ceiling windows that provide attractive views of the surrounding area, and the modern bathrooms and window fronts always follow the same standardised system approach. Each complex’s architecture and facade incorporate individual touches and are constructed to the highest quality standards, integrating seamlessly into their surroundings. The Cureus system approach also prioritises sustainability, both in terms of a care home’s long-term economic viability and its impact on the environment. All Cureus care homes are, for example, constructed in accordance with the ‘Effizienhaus-40-Standard’ (former KfW 40 energy-efficiency standard), while the bulk procurement of floor coverings or elevator systems, for example, ensures cost synergies and long-term maintenance contracts covering several properties also reduce costs for care home operators. The constant review and optimisation of the Cureus system care home standard guarantees the construction of care homes that truly meet demand.
