Hamburg, 13 April 2026. Cureus, an integrated property company that specialises in developing and actively managing its own care home portfolio, continued to deliver new and urgently needed care capacity in Germany during the first quarter of 2026 and began construction on further units. Between January and March 2026, 438 units for care and assisted living, as well as a childcare facility, were completed at various locations, and construction of a new residential facility with 163 care places was also commenced. All new facilities are operated in collaboration with various operating partners.
“2026 has got off to a good start, both for the property sector and for us,” sums up Christian Möhrke, CEO of Cureus, adding: “In the first quarter, policymakers already took steps towards further easing building regulations, and the funding landscape has also become more investor-friendly again, which is likely to lead to a tentative revival in property development projects. It remains to be seen how agile the government will be in the near future regarding care legislation and what impact this might have on the construction of new care facilities. With regard to Cureus, we are proud that our consistently high construction output and the quality of our properties are so positively assessed by the experts at bulwiengesa and the DGNB. The high level of acceptance of our properties, including among institutional and private investors, is also an incentive for us to continue on our course and create new, urgently needed care capacity for Germany.”
bulwiengesa analysis reaffirms market leadership in senior housing
The specialists at the market data and analysis institute bulwiengesa have once again named Cureus as the leading project developer for senior housing in Germany for the year 2025. This is according to the company’s latest Development Monitor, which provides a detailed analysis of the German project development market every six months. Cureus has thus led the segment for the fourth year running. To the Development Monitor 2025…
Award of ten DGNB Silver Certificates, upgrade of DGNB Basic Certificate to Silver status
In the first quarter, the German Institute for Sustainable Building (DGNB) has now awarded ten Cureus buildings with silver certification, either as individual certificates or as part of the basic certification scheme. The experts thereby recognise the high standard of sustainable construction quality achieved through the Cureus system approach, particularly in the assessment categories of environment, social aspects, processes and location. Also, in the first quarter of 2026, the DGNB upgraded the Basic Certificate, issued at the end of 2025 for Cureus’s future care properties, to Silver status. Acquisition of new plots of land and sale of a site to Swiss Life Asset Managers
With the acquisition of two new development plots in North Rhine-Westphalia, Cureus is expanding its project pipeline at the start of the year.
As part of the sale of the Porta Westfalica-Barkhausen site (North Rhine-Westphalia), a property built in 2023 comprising 112 places for full-time and short-term care, ten units for non-hospital intensive care (AKIP) and associated service facilities was transferred to Swiss Life Asset Managers in the first quarter of 2026. Joining the BFW Landesverband Nord
At the end of March, Cureus joined the BFW Landesverband Nord e.V. in order to strengthen its position in Cureus’s most important core market through this network of regional and national property market players. In doing so, Cureus is also further expanding the association’s membership base with a clear focus on care and assisted living services for the elderly.
The ‘Wohncarrée Salzmann’ project nominated as a ‘Green Project’ for the German Property Awards
The “Wohncarrée Industriedenkmal Salzmann” project in Kassel, currently under construction by Cureus, was nominated at the start of the year for the top 10 in the “Green Project” category at the 2026 German Property Awards. The application was submitted jointly with Pecuria GmbH, which is handling the single sales of the apartments for senior living at this location. More about the project…
Continued land acquisition and property sales
Cureus continues to selectively sell properties from its portfolio to various market participants whenever opportunities arise, thereby freeing up tied-up capital to fund further projects. The sale of apartments for the elderly to private investors on an individual basis, organised through sales partners, also remains a core part of the company’s business.
Furthermore, the company remains active in the acquisition of land for new projects. The focus here is particularly on North Rhine-Westphalia; Hesse, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Berlin also remain of interest. The company is primarily seeking centrally located plots in residential or mixed-use areas of 3,000 square metres or more, which are well connected to infrastructure. To the acquisition profile…

Planning and construction in accordance with the Cureus system approach
All Cureus new-build properties are designed and built in accordance with the Cureus standard for system care homes. This specifies uniform, high quality standards and is oriented, among other things, towards the requirements of care home operators, residents and caregivers. This systematic approach enables Cureus to optimise both structural processes and the properties themselves from the inside to the outside. This relates, for example, to the dimensions and arrangement of every room in order to maximise to space and walkways. Cureus care homes are also designed and equipped for maximum utility. Interior corridors benefit from as much daylight as possible, every room has floor-to-ceiling windows and attractive views of the surrounding area, while the modern bathrooms and window fronts always follow the same standardised system approach. The architecture and facade of each residence incorporate individual touches and are constructed to the highest quality standards, integrating seamlessly into their surroundings. The Cureus system approach also prioritises sustainability, both in terms of a care home’s long-term economic viability and its impact on the environment. All Cureus care homes are, for example, constructed in accordance with the ‘Effizienhaus 40 Standard’ of the KfW and target the DGNB silver certificate. Bulk procurement of floor coverings and elevator systems, for example, achieves significant cost synergies. Long-term maintenance contracts that cover several properties also reduce costs for care home operators. The constant review and optimisation of the Cureus system care home standard guarantees the construction of care homes that truly meet demand.
