Hamburg/Winsen (Aller)/Gladbeck-Brauck, 3 July 2026. Cureus, an integrated property company that specialises in developing and actively managing its own care home portfolio, yesterday held a topping-out ceremony for the Gladbeck-Brauck senior residence together with the future operator, Amando Seniorenresidenzen, a brand of Pflegemotive. The ceremony took place in the presence of Dr Volker Kreuzer, the First Deputy Mayor of Gladbeck. Also in attendance were representatives of those involved in the construction, from the local authority, as well as from the operator and the developer, and local residents. In addition to the main ceremony beneath the topping-out wreath – featuring a traditional topping-out speech and the symbolic hammering of the final nail into the roof structure – the approximately 50 attendees were also provided with detailed information about the new senior residence currently under construction. The first applicants for the more than 100 new jobs have already been given exclusive guided tours of the shell of what could become their new workplace. Refreshments were plentiful, and in keeping with the Football World Cup, there were decorations, a table football table and a goal-shooting game with small prizes on offer. Cureus is acting as the main contractor for the construction of this project. The new building is being constructed at Horster Straße 216 in 45968 Gladbeck-Brauck (North Rhine-Westphalia).

“Our construction project is progressing rapidly and entirely according to plan. The structural work on the new senior residence is complete, the roof and the building envelope are watertight, and the future building is already clearly visible. So we have the ideal conditions to now press ahead with the interior fit-out,” says Kathrin Ufken, project manager at Cureus, with delight: “In keeping with tradition, we would like to celebrate this milestone with everyone involved in the construction under the topping-out wreath and express our thanks for their work so far. We remain confident that we will be able to complete the new care facility for Gladbeck on schedule in early 2027 and hand it over to our experienced operating partner, Amando Seniorenresidenzen. We wish all our construction partners continued success.”

Modern senior residence designed with sustainability in mind – restaurant, hairdresser, wellness & care bath, laundry, fireplace lounge with library and therapy room in the building

On the approx. 3,390 square metre site at the intersection of Theodorstraße, Johannastraße and Horster Straße, an L-shaped building will be constructed, opening onto a green, park-like inner courtyard. The entire Gladbeck-Brauck senior residence complex has been designed to be barrier-free and to meet the high energy efficiency requirements of the KfW 55KNN standard. Heating will be provided in an environmentally friendly manner by a heat pump, and a solar system with 349 modules will generate additional green electricity on the extensively greened flat roof. The building's design will also be specially adapted to its surroundings: in particular, the linear cubature with a mixture of red and sandstone-coloured clinker bricks and plaster in several shades of grey will create an eye-catching feature.

The residence will have a gross floor area of approx.7,140 square metres in a partial basement and on four full floors. It will welcome residents and guests with a hotel-style lobby, a fireplace lounge and a library. A wellness and care bath, a hairdresser, therapy rooms and an in-house laundry complete the range of services. The sun terrace of the restaurant, which is also accessible to the neighbourhood, will create a pleasant connection to the park-like outdoor facilities.

Residents can expect 118 bright, spacious single rooms for inpatient care with en-suite bathrooms to the latest standards, which include a nurse call system as well as their own telephone, internet and TV connections. 111 rooms – equivalent to 95 per cent – will be wheelchair accessible. Residents will be able to furnish their rooms individually to create a feel-good atmosphere and a private retreat. The division into seven residential groups, each with its own lounge with kitchen and terrace or balcony, is intended to create a homely, family atmosphere.

Ideal location and high-quality construction

The senior residence is centrally located in Gladbeck's Brauck district and is surrounded by an established residential area. The Nattbach stream and the Natroper Feld nature reserve are within walking distance, and the Mottbruch sports park and Südpark are also nearby. Shopping facilities, doctors and social services are also located in the surrounding area. The centre of Gladbeck, with its cafés, church, cultural attractions and railway station, is just as easy to reach from the nearby bus stop as the surrounding towns and communities.

A park-like outdoor area is planned on the grounds of the senior residence. With circular paths, shaded rest areas and regional planting of deciduous and fruit trees, it will serve as a meeting place and invite visitors to exercise and linger outdoors. In addition, ten car parking spaces with infrastructure for e-mobility are to be created on the property, one of which will be accessible for disabled people, as well as 16 bicycle parking spaces. This will ensure excellent accessibility for visitors, residents and nursing staff.

The new residence has been designed and will be build in accordance with the Cureus standard for system care homes. This places great importance on uniform, high quality standards and is oriented, among other things, towards the requirements of the operators, focusing on the residents and care staff. In this way, the structural processes and all properties are optimised from the inside to the outside: This concerns, for example, the size and arrangement of rooms to optimize space and walkways. Cureus care homes are also designed and equipped for maximum utility: interior corridors benefit from as much daylight as possible, every room has floor-to-ceiling windows that provide attractive views of the surrounding area, and the modern bathrooms and window fronts always follow the same standardised system approach. Each complex’s architecture and facade incorporate individual touches and are constructed to the highest quality standards, integrating seamlessly into their surroundings.
