Hamburg/Winsen (Aller)/Sundern-Amecke, 28 April 2022. Cureus, an integrated property company specialising in care homes, which builds new properties for its own portfolio, and Curavie, the future operator of the new senior residence in Amecke, today invited guests to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone. In keeping with current coronavirus restrictions, the small group of guests included Klaus-Rainer Willeke, Mayor of Sundern, Monika Krick, head of the village of Amecke, and Eberhard Freiherr von Wrede, member of the St. Hubertus Amecke church council and representative of the site’s former owner. In addition to the ceremonial placement of the time capsule, the guests were also provided with in-depth information on the future senior residence and a short tour of the construction site. Construction is underway at Amecker Str. 34 in 59846 Sundern, with Cureus itself acting as general contractor.

Eberhard Freiherr von Wrede didn’t hide his delight: “The modern Curavie senior residence will bring major benefits to Amecke. Demand for care places is already high in our region and will continue to rise. We were really keen to support this important project and the local community by providing the land”.

“We expect this project with 80 care places to take just 18 months to build”, explains Alexander Riedel, Project Manager at Cureus. “We started with the first works at the end of last year and are looking at completing the project in the summer of 2023. Today we laid the foundation stone and embedded a time capsule in the floor slab containing items that are representative of the current time: floor plans, a daily newspaper, a few coins, photos, but also a surgical mask”.

“We expect demand for care places in Sundern-Amecke to continue to increase in years to come and are really looking forward to operating this new residence”, says Susanne Thon, Managing Director of Curavie Seniorenresidenzen. “Due to our extensive operational experience, we can already promise our future residents the best possible care and our future nursing staff excellent working conditions. We will also be providing care for people with dementia, and will have a dementia centre on the ground floor”.

The new residence will create about 70 new and secure jobs. New employees are already being sought to work in nursing, administration, building services and housekeeping. The allocation of care places will also start soon. Prospective residents and potential employees can contact Curavie by telephone (05143 98100), email (kontakt@curavie-pflege.de) or via the contact forms on the Curavie website (www.curavie-pflege.de/amecke).

State-of-the-art senior residence with restaurant, laundry, hair salon and fireplace lounge

The entire residence, which will accommodate a partial basement, three full stories and a recessed top floor, will be barrier-free and is being designed and built to the sustainable Efficiency House 40 standard (previously KfW 40 standard). Heating will be supplied by an environmentally-friendly combined heat and power plant (CHP), which will also generate electricity for the senior residence. The modern, rectilinear facade will be an architectural eye-catcher and, with its attractive colour scheme and brickwork ground floor, the property will blend harmoniously with its surroundings. The gross floor area will be around 5,100 square metres. In addition to six living groups, the residence will also include a restaurant with a fresh food kitchen, an in-house laundry, a hairdressing salon, a fireplace lounge with a library, and numerous therapy rooms.

Each of the residence’s 80 single rooms will be barrier-free, designed in accordance with the latest standards, and will be equipped with a private bathroom. Residents will also be able to equip their rooms with private furniture and accessories. The living area on the ground floor has been specifically designed to meet the needs of residents with dementia. The spacious, park-like outdoor facilities will be open to all residents for exercise, relaxation and socialising.

Giving care the space it needs

Many people are aware of the shortage of nursing staff and are actively implementing appropriate measures to solve the shortage, but there is little awareness of the undersupply of nursing homes. According to a recent study by bulwiengesa (found here), up to 600,000 new care places need to be built across Germany by 2040, but construction is lagging behind. Cureus is constantly on the lookout for new plots of land to implement its proprietary system approach and accelerate the construction of modern care facilities. Property offers can be sent to ankauf@cureus.de at any time.
