Hamburg/Winsen (Aller)/Flensburg, 28 March 2022. Cureus, an experienced integrated portfolio holder for inpatient care homes in Germany, which builds new properties for its own portfolio, together with Insanto, the future operator, were today joined by a select group of guests to celebrate the topping-out ceremony for the new senior residence in Flensburg. Among the approx. 90 guests were Flensburg's mayor Simone Lange and Bernd Wittke, chairman of the city's senior citizens' advisory council. Having hoisted the topping-out wreath and symbolically hammered the last nail into the roof truss, Cureus and Insanto provided attendees with extensive information on the senior residence currently under construction. There was also an opportunity for interested guests to take a tour of the now completed building shell. Visitors enjoyed food and drink after the ceremony. The site of the future residence is on Osterallee, in 24944 Flensburg, and Cureus is acting as general contractor for this project.

“Thanks to the mild winter and the effective cooperation with our subcontractors, construction is progressing well according to plan”, says Karim Abdel-Rehim, project manager at Cureus. “As a result, we are able to celebrate the topping-out ceremony and take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the construction works. With the completion of the roof, we can then focus our attention on the interior. With the project on schedule, we should be able to complete and handover the new senior residence to our operating partner Insanto in late autumn 2022”.

“Our second Insanto senior residence in Schleswig-Holstein is now taking shape”, observes a delighted Jan Kaiser, Managing Director of Insanto. “From November 2022, the range of services on offer in Flensburg will extend from classic care home places to outpatient day care and barrier-free assisted living. In addition to enhancing residents’ quality of life through the provision of expert, personalised care, we are also committed to creating a warm and welcoming environment, which this is where the team at the residence plays an important role. Appreciation and a modern working environment are top of our agenda”.

Modern senior residence with outpatient day care and assisted-living apartments

The new care home will be home to 144 care places for long- and short-term inpatient care and a residential group for dementia patients. Plans also include 25 assisted living units and 25 outpatient day care places. The property is being designed and built to the sustainable KfW 40 energy-efficiency standard and will also feature greened flat roofs. The modern, rectilinear facade will be clinkered on the ground floor and, thanks to its light colour scheme, will blend in perfectly with the surrounding buildings.

In addition to a hotel-style reception and in-house own laundry, the senior residence will also have a fireside lounge with a library and a restaurant with its own fresh-food kitchen, which will be open to residents in the assisted living units, guests and members of the local community. There are also currently considerations to include a GP practice directly in the residence for the residents and the neighbourhood community as a whole. Of the 144 modern single rooms with bathrooms, 96 will be wheelchair accessible. The rooms can be individually furnished by residents in order to create a homely ambience and a private retreat. There will also be 25 outpatient day care places on the residence’s ground floor to serve tenants living in the assisted living units above and external guests. The 25 modern assisted living units have floor plans ranging from 41 to 79 square metres and are located on the fourth and fifth floors. All units are barrier-free and some are fully wheelchair-accessible. All of the apartments are equipped with a bathroom, bedroom, living room living and kitchenette, plus a hallway and storage facilities. Some units feature a balcony or roof terrace. The rent for the assisted living units is expected to be between €620 and €1,300, depending on the floor plan.
The new senior residence is being developed on the edge of a residential area that has just been expanded and within easy walking distance of Flensburg’s green surroundings. Shops, medical practices and social amenities are no more than a few minutes’ walk away. There will also be 34 car parking spaces, including 19 spaces in an underground garage.
