Hamburg/Hanover/Cottbus, 18 March 2022. Cureus, an experienced integrated portfolio holder for inpatient care homes in Germany, which builds new properties for its own portfolio, and MEDIKO, care specialist of the SCHÖNES LEBEN Group, as the future operator of the Cottbus senior residence, today invited guests to the laying of the foundation stone in a small circle due to coronavirus restrictions. Among the guests were city councillor Thomas Bergner and Gudrun Obst, chairwoman of the advisory council for people with disabilities of the city of Cottbus. In addition to the actual ceremony, which included the ceremonial sinking of the time capsule, the participants were also presented with in-depth information on how the new senior residence is being built. Visitors enjoyed food and drink after the ceremony. The construction site is located in Hallenser Straße/Schweriner Straße in 03046 Cottbus, the general contractor is Schneider Systembau from Radeburg.

“We expect this comprehensive project with more than 200 modern care and assisted living units to take just 19 months to build, so we are planning to complete it before the end of summer 2023”, reports Yvonne von Polier, project manager at Cureus. “Today we laid the foundation stone and embedded a time capsule in the floor slab with special utensils that symbolise our current time. In addition to floor plans, these include, for example, a daily newspaper, a few coins, photos, but also a face mask. We would also like to take this moment to wish the new building project that is now underway and all those involved in it every success!”

Christian Cohausz, Managing Director of MEDIKO Pflege- und Gesundheitszentren, also spoke to the guests: “We are delighted about the start of building construction on schedule for our residence in Cottbus, which will be our third new MEDIKO location in beautiful Brandenburg, along with Neuruppin and Rathenow. While the building is now being constructed piece by piece, we are starting to recruit staff and are already accepting applications for our care places. As early as next summer, we want to offer an attractive range of services for senior citizens in Cottbus with our comprehensive care, living and service offer”.

State-of-the-art care and units with a comprehensive range of services

The Cottbus senior residence comprises two completely barrier-free buildings. The care facility is being built along Schweriner Straße, while the apartment building with outpatient daycare places adjoins the rear of the residence to the east of the site.  Both buildings will be built as energy-optimised efficiency houses 40 (previously KfW-40 standard). Heating will be ecologically sustainable via a combined heat and power unit (CHP), which will also generate electricity.

The nursing home extends over four full floors with a recessed floor.  The future residents will have 147 modern care places in generously designed single rooms with en-suite bathrooms, 63 of the rooms are wheelchair accessible. It is possible for residents to furnish their own rooms in order to maintain privacy and as a private retreat. A living group on the ground floor will be specially designed for the needs and care processes of dementia patients. A restaurant with fresh cuisine and a terrace is also planned for the ground floor of the senior residence, which will be open to residents, guests and neighbours. A hotel-like reception, a hair salon, modern care bathrooms and an in-house laundry round off the services offered to residents.

In the apartment building, 41 spacious two-room units are being built on the ground floor and on the two upper floors, ranging from 46 to 57 square metres, six of which are wheelchair-accessible. In addition to the living room with visually separated kitchenette and access to its own balcony or terrace, each of the units also has a bedroom, a handicapped-accessible shower room, a hallway and a storage room. The recessed floor above will house the outpatient daycare places with 27 modern care places.

MEDIKO Seniorenresidenz Cottbus is within walking distance of Cottbus city centre and is very well connected to public transport. 30 parking spaces as well as friendly, spacious outdoor facilities are available on the premises for residents, guests and staff.
