Hamburg/Winsen (Aller)/Herne-Mitte, 4. May 2023. Cureus, an integrated property company that specialises in developing and actively managing its own inpatient care home portfolio, and Belia, as the future operator of the senior residence Herne, today hosted a topping-out ceremony. Among the guests were Herne‘s Lord Mayor Kai Gera. The traditional ceremony featured a topping-out wreath, speeches, and the hammering in of the final nail into the roof structure. About 70 visitors enjoyed food and drink after the ceremony and were keen to find out more about the new senior residence. The construction site is located at Baumstr. 8-12 in 44623 Herne-Mitte. Cureus is itself the executing general contractor. Parallel to this residence, another Belia location is currently being built in Luisenstraße in Herne-Horsthausen with 84 nursing places (more details here).

"Where an old car dealership once stood in the center of Herne and not far from the main train station, the new senior residence is already clearly visible today," Kathrin Ufken, Cureus project manager, is pleased to report. "Today, of course, we would like to celebrate the progress of construction in the traditional way with all those involved in the building work and express our thanks to them for what they have achieved so far. With the completion of the roof, we are now independent of the weather and can now fully tackle the interior work. I am optimistic that we will be able to hand over to our proven, professional operating partner Belia for an opening at the beginning of 2024 as planned."

Christoph Laube from Human Resources Management at Belia Seniorenresidenzen also thanks the teams on the construction site and is pleased with the progress of the project: "Here we built a unique building ensemble with a feel-good character, which will be characterised by high-quality, age-appropriate interior design and exterior architecture as well as friendly and senior-friendly living areas. The opening is planned for the beginning of 2024. With the concept of ‚open residences‘, we promote the social and societal contacts of the residents with the local environment. In addition to quality care and nursing, we offer an attractive programme of events and leisure activities to ensure that our residents feel completely at ease - true to our motto, 'Belia – Besser Leben im Alter".

Modern senior residence with extensive range of services

Upon completion, this state-of-the-art, four-storey residence will accommodate 80 inpatient care places, a living community with 55 residential units, and 27 outpatient day-care places. The property is being designed and built to the stringent KfW 40 energy-efficiency standard. A biogas-fired combined heat and power plant (CHP) will generate both heat and electricity on site.

The new Belia senior residence will blend perfectly with its surrounding environment, creating a pleasing architectural highlight thanks to its bright, rectilinear facade. The ground floor will welcome residents and guests with a hotel-style lobby, a lounge with library, and a range of services including a hair and chiropody salon, therapy rooms and an in-house laundry. The restaurant with fresh cuisine will also be open to the public.

The single rooms will all be wheelchair-accessible and equipped with their own modern bathrooms. Residents will be able to furnish their own rooms to create a private, homely atmosphere and add to the cosy comforts. In the 55-unit living community named „Piepenfritz“, residents will receive support from the residence’s staff and be involved in housekeeping processes in accordance with their individual capabilities. The day-care facility on the ground floor will be fully equipped to provide daily nursing care to every resident that needs it. In addition to the large recreation room with kitchen, there will also be a therapy and gymnastics room, rest rooms and a care bathroom.
